Discussed and voted for openers. Selected the top 5 choices.
We need to vote for 2 choices for our negotiations team.
Ballots place in mail boxes. Due by Oct, 9th. Vote for two.
The CWA rep visited and answered some of our questions.
They are a large union and he represents several groups in the Chico area.
Some of the groups he represents are: Butte College part time staff, Valley Oaks Children Service, Adult Protective Service, Child Protective Service, Oroville Minor(newspaper), and Catalyst.
If we chose to go with CWA, it would basically be the same as the way we work with the A-unit now. We would negotiate for ourselves and we would be the only voting members for our contract. CWA would be our
representative who meets with the city. He would be our Steve. We would not have to come up with by-laws or have a working board.
We asked about legal representation. He advised PORAC is who they
would ask to represent us if they the union decided we needed legal defense. That point was the only real problem. We asked for clarification and he said he would get back to us.
Cost to be a member of CWA, 1.3% of your base salary (example $3,000 monthly salary. union dues $39.00)
Lastly we voted for a committee to represent us while looking for information about unions.
